Hiking the Park
In the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, countless nature trails for any difficulties are waiting for you. You can choose among challenging climbs up to the mountains peak or easy walks with your children, with a little luck you will come across some of the inhabitants of the park like the Abruzzo chamois, deer and eagles. More shy and protected are the famous Marsicano brown bear and the wolf, but the park is home to a wonderful ecosystem composed of 60 species of mammals, 300 of birds, 40 of reptiles, amphibians and fish, the ideal place for your kids to experience the marvels of nature.
Trekking in History
12 picturesque villages, perched on the mountains and in spectacular locations, each one with its unique heritage of stories, traditions, flavors and ancient treasures. This microcosm is the Valle di Comino and any of its villages is well worth a visit even just to enjoy the different perspective. Among megalithic walls, medieval fortresses, archeological remains and small museums you can discover traces of ancient civilizations which have crossed this place. For a complete overview on the history of the valley it is worth visiting the Archaeological Museum of Atina and Valle di Comino.
Skiing, snowboarding and freeriding
Picinisco owns the best position for practicing winter sports. Prati di Mezzo (1500 m) is the ideal base for those taking their first steps on skis or snowshoeing. From here freeriders can reach the highest peak of Mount Meta (2242 m) and launch into breathtaking descents. The ski resorts of Pescasseroli and Roccaraso are respectively 45 km and 80 km away.
Diving and canoeing on Lake Posta Fibreno
The Natural Reserve of Posta Fibreno Lake is located within the territory of the Valley. The protected area extends approximately 400 hectares and is home to a fragile and particular ecosystem. The waters of Fibreno, crystal clear, cold and pristine, descend underground from the foothills of the high Valle di Sangro to resurface in a sheet of water that delights residents and visitors passing through. Is a unique place to stroll along one of the four nature trails, but is also known for diving. If you rent a canoe you can venture into the reeds in search of the particular floating island.Other highlights include the picturesque mill and the small Ethnographic Museum.
